Sophie Moos

I am a fourth year Journalism student at SUNY New Paltz, and am expected to graduate in May of 2026. I have been a member of The New Paltz Oracle since Spring 2023, and am going into next year with a page editor position.

I chose journalism as my field because I wanted to be able to make change in small communities that may be otherwise overlooked by larger papers. I feel, especially in the Hudson Valley, every town has its own story that should be told. 

Since beginning my career, I have honed many skills, such as writing, interviewing and reporting. I am skilled in Adobe Indesign, Adobe Photoshop and Wordpress. In my upcoming school year on the Oracle, I will edit and manage multiple writers every week. 

During my internship at The Overlook, I became acquainted with the realities of a small newsroom. I kept in close contact with my editor, and could complete tasks with short notice as needed. I wrote multiple articles throughout the internship, including a large news story in Woodstock, NY.
